Every gamer uses headphones at some point while playing a game (or every time), because listening to your favorite music while playing adds an extra layer of relaxation to every session. More importantly, a good gaming headset also helps you emerge into the game.
Product | Our Score |
---|---|
Logitech G Pro X Gaming Headset | 95/100 |
Razer Nari Essential Wireless 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset | 95/100 |
JBL Quantum 800 – Wireless Over-Ear Performance Gaming Headset | 100/100 |
Why headphones for gaming?
Most gamers today use voice chat to interact in-game. So having a set of headphones which are comfortable to wear for many hours, have great outside sound cancellation level and a quality built-in microphone is practically a must these days, especially if you play an online massively multiplayer game (like I do when I get the time).
Wired vs. Wireless
Headphones can be either wired or wireless. While wireless may seem like a better choice (because having no wires attached gives you more freedom), they generally cost more. Plus you need to charge your wireless headset.
Personally, I prefer wired headphones, because I tend to forget charging my gadgets, but the choice of wires/no wires is, of course, up to you.
We at Dan Reviews reviewed many gaming headsets for this article, and just like in case of gaming keyboards and gaming mice, I present you what we think are the best gaming headphones.
Logitech G Pro X Gaming Headset
The Pro in Logitech G Pro X Gaming Headset means that e-sports players gave their feedback on what matters for gamers when the manufacturer was making a particular model. This headset just might become the new benchmark for gaming headphones, to my humble opinion.

This model is a bit pricier than the regular Pro version, because it has the Blue Voice Technology. Blue Voice Technology means that the audio quality you get when using the microphone is almost identical to a standalone streaming microphone.
Black aluminum, black leather, silver accents. All serve a purpose of giving this headphones a premium, professional look.
There is no 90 degrees rotation of the headpieces like you see in other headphones, but due to the fact that the headband is flexible, you can easily place this set resting on your shoulders. You can also extend the size.
The microphone is removable, and as a result you can also wear this headset outdoors should you so desire, or even use them while not gaming, and, say, listening to music.
Ear buds in this model have great clamping force (without being too tight at the same time thanks to the soft ear-cushions). All of this creates a nice seal around your ears, preventing most of the outside noise from getting through.
The accessories include splitter cable, mobile cable, PC cable (which has a volume wheel), and a carry patch. The headphones come with software using which you can configure your set.
Logitech G Pro X Gaming Headset
Hear and sound like a pro with the PRO X Gaming Headset. Pro designed with detachable mic and Blue VO!CE software for professional sounding voice comms. Featuring next gen 7.1 surround sound and PRO G 50 mm drivers for amazingly clear sound imaging. Soft memory foam padded leatherette or velour earcups. Durable steel + aluminum construction. Play to win.

Note: the Logitech G Pro X Gaming Headset goes well together with the Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum RGB Wired Mechanical Gaming Keyboard and the Logitech G502 HERO High Performance Gaming Mouse we had previously reviewed.
Razer Nari Essential Wireless 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset
The Razer Nari Essential Gaming Headset is a little bit on a big side (which means you can’t really take the headset outside, unlike the previous model). But they are still light, with the weight is distributed evenly.

The headset is wireless.
This product delivers good sound quality and comfort. Nari Essential is a more basic, non-flashy version of its product line. But don’t let the simplicity mislead you.
You can bend and twist the frame freely, and the aluminum frame even allows for an accidental drop of the product (which we all know happen sometimes).
The clamping force was is not bad and enough to create a proper seal around your ears. I could hardly feel pressure at all.
Due to the headband being free form, you can’t really adjust the height of your headset. I found it to be the only drawback of this model, to be honest.
You can rest this headset freely of your shoulders.
The headset is loud enough for you to leave them on your shoulders and listen to your music while walking around the house (the built-in microphone is detachable).
The cushions felt soft and cool even after a long period of gaming, so my ears didn’t sweat at all.
All the controls are built into the ear pieces.
Note: this wireless gaming headset does have a jack to connect it with a wire in case the battery level goes low.
One last thing about Razer Nari Essential Gaming Headset is the THQ technology, which is meant to simulate surround sound (and does it well).
Together with the Razer Cynosa Chroma Gaming Keyboard and the Razer Basilisk v2 Wired Gaming Mouse this headphones complete the gaming accessories set for every Razer fan.
Razer Nari Essential Wireless 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset
The Razer Nari Essential is designed for gamers who seek core features, superior comfort and incredible sound in a wireless gaming headset.

JBL Quantum 800 – Wireless Over-Ear Performance Gaming Headset
The JBL Quantum 800 – Wireless Over-Ear Performance Gaming Headset has been made by JBL, a company that has taken over wireless speaker market lately (or so it looks like at times). This is, I must admit, is for a good reason: JBL delivers quality sound.

(at the time of writing, only 4 of this headsets were left in stock on Amazon with more on the way)
I have noticed right upon unboxing that this gaming headset is capable of playing back 24bit audio, high resolution (nice promise on the package which turned out to be true later on when I actually used the set).
This headphones, as far as I know, are one of the first gaming headphones to have noise cancelling specifically for gaming. In practice this means that once you put them on, you will not hear anything on the outside, and will be fully immersed into your favorite game. Sound cancelling can be turned on or off.
The headset looks and feels solid while also being glossier than most competitors. Out of the 3 headsets reviewed, this one had the most RGB lighting which can be turned on and off. The ear pieces are leathery, soft, and smooth and practically “hugged” my ears. Same goes for the headband.
All the wires are durable and reliable, so I would not worry about any of them breaking.
The level of height adjustability is more than enough, so I was able to make the headset fit without any trouble (to be fair I don’t usually find it difficult to adjust any headset to the size of my head, but maybe it’s just me). Each side even has number nudges, so you can adjust each side (more headphone manufacturers should do this).
The microphone has an auto-mute feature in this model. All you have to do to mute your microphone is to flip it up. Personally, I find this feature to be awesome.
All of the controls, including the Bluetooth pairing button, are on the earpieces, like in the previous model. The headphones also have the 3.5mm jack for wired connection.
JBL Quantum 800 – Wireless Over-Ear Performance Gaming Headset
The JBL Quantum range delivers a sound experience that transforms each headset into a crown for the everyday champion. The JBL Quantum 800 comes with the JBL Quantum Engine software for immersive surround sound, enabling PC gamers to adjust EQ, sound effects, mic modes, and RGB effects. Built by our team of acoustic engineers and tested extensively with gamers around the world to develop a predictive algorithm so that every game is more immersive to give you a competitive edge.
